Note: This course has two versions, or "tracks." Please choose which track you would like to participate in when registering below.

Both tracks are simultaneous. Each attendee can only attend one track!

Track 1: Navigating the World of Autism/Autism Through the Lens of Trauma

Presenter: Michele DeBerry, MS, CCS-SLP, Ed.D. Candidate

Part 1: Learn to navigate the world of autism and understand the spectrum of abilities. This session will identify the impact autism has on children and their families; and we’ll also explore ways families can partner with schools to build a team to help navigate the world of autism, while developing academic, social, and lifelong skills.

Part 2: This session will discuss the effects of trauma on children with autism, identify protective factors that can be focused on at home and in the community. Participants will also learn to use a trauma-informed approach to shine a light on the way forward for children and families.

Track 2: From Awareness to Action: Trauma-Informed Care for Children and Adolescentswith Sensory Disorders

Presenter: Amber Davis, DSc,MS, OTR/L- College of Allied Health

Part 1: This session will concentrate on grasping the sensory system, assisting children and adolescents with sensory processing challenges, and adjusting activities and encounters for those struggling with sensory issues

Part 2: Attendees will also delve into the sensory obstacles faced by children and adolescents with autism and trauma, and explore effective ways to aid children in various settings like home, school, and the community.


This in-service training is provided to Enhanced Foster Care Families who need ongoing training to support children in their homes. No childcare available. Lunch will be provided. You must register to attend.

Each participant can receive up to 4 hours of training credit.
