Support Groups for Region 2
Support Network Groups are designed to assist resource parents with in-service training, community resource information, peer support, and communication with DHS. Attending on a regular basis is not only a great way to get the emotional and practical support you need to succeed, it's a great way to stay on top of the training requirements you need to fulfill. Some groups serve dinner or snacks; all provide child care with your RSVP. Please contact the facilitator to find out about the topic or confirm your attendance.
Garvin/McClain Counties Support Network Group Meeting
June 14, 2025
Compassion Church
113 West McClure Avenue
Pauls Valley, OK 73075
June Meeting Topic: Advocating without Being Adversarial
Speaker: Dawn Leemon, Foster Care Ombudsman, Office of Client Advocacy, Oklahoma State Department of Health
Foster parents play a critical role in advocating for the needs of the children in their care. But speaking up effectively can be challenging—especially when emotions run high or systems feel unresponsive.
This training empowers caregivers with practical tools to advocate confidently and constructively—while building positive, collaborative relationships with caseworkers, schools, service providers, and other team members.
Training Credit: Parents in attendance will earn 2 hours of in-service training credit toward your annual 12-hour requirement. Come connect and learn with other kinship, foster, and adoptive families in Garvin, McClain, and surrounding counties.
Sponsored by Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Coordinated by The University of Oklahoma OUTREACH National Resource Center for Youth Services, Resource Family Training & Support Program
