Session 1: Equity Terms and Practices

October 12, 2020
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

A common language is critical to understand diversity and inclusion, to have healthy conversations about difficult concepts such as race and equity, and most importantly to better serve all youth. This training serves as an introduction to terms such as bias, micro-aggression, equity, and others. Additionally, participants will learn how to mitigate instances of discriminatory behaviors and bias.

Prerequisite: None

Session 2: Navigating Implicit Bias

October 19, 2020
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

This foundational training serves as a starting point for engaging in racial equity work. It explores the phenomena of implicit bias and how individuals can minimize its effects on interactions with others. Participants will learn how their own unique identities shape their experiences and impact their day-to-day interactions with others. They will learn strategies for minimizing the effects of implicit bias, which can manifest in the form of verbal, non-verbal, and environmental micro-messages.

Prerequisite: Session 1

Session 3: Multicultural Communication Best Practices

October 26, 2020
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

During this training, participants will learn to recognize common patterns of communication that can produce difficult conversations and the underlying factors that make them difficult. Active listening develops the ability to communicate more clearly and to better understand individuals from different cultures, and participants will leave with tools they can implement in their everyday life. This training will take a deep dive on micro-aggressions.

Prerequisite: Sessions 1 and 2

Session 4: The Big Picture

November 2, 2020
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

In this in-depth training, we will use the pyramid of oppression to talk about systemic inequality and our own privilege. Using a no-fault approach, our facilitators will walk participants through the different levels of the pyramid using historical context. Participants will gain an understanding of how we can leverage our privilege to become allies. Additionally, this training will focus on strategies to reduce and prevent ACEs and their consequences.

Prerequisite: Sessions 1, 2, and 3
