Children in care often come with complex histories shaped by trauma, loss, and disrupted relationships. At the heart of healing is connection. The Heart of Connection: Building Meaningful Relationships with Children in Care is a highly interactive, skill-building training designed to help caregivers and child-serving professionals strengthen their ability to form safe, trusting, and meaningful relationships with children in their care. Participants should expect to participate in multiple hands-on activities and discussion throughout the entire session.
Adapted from the National Resource Center for Youth Services Residential Child and Youth Care Professional Curriculum (RCYCP), this training explores the foundational role of relationships in promoting emotional safety, resilience, and permanency. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how intentional, consistent connection can support healing and growth.
Through discussion, practical strategies, and real-world examples, participants will learn how to:
- Build trust and emotional safety with children and youth in care
- Respond to challenging behaviors through a relationship-based lens
- Strengthen communication and connection during everyday interactions
- Support healthy attachment and long-term permanency outcomes
