One in Six: The Intersection of Child Trafficking and the Foster Care System

This introductory online presentation will discuss available data that highlights links between child sex trafficking and the foster care system, and how direct care professionals can provide trauma informed support and resources for youth who have experienced sex trafficking while missing in care.

Participants will learn key concepts of human trafficking, including federal definitions, trafficking terminology, and components of power and control; understand risk factors that increases a youth’s chance of being trafficked, and learn how to recognize red flags of suspected trafficking. The presentation will close with a discussion on trauma informed, research-based approaches and resources for direct care professionals to support youth who have experienced sex trafficking while missing in care.
