Region 4 Support Groups
Oklahoma Kinship, Foster, and Adoptive Family Support Network Groups are designed to assist resource parents with in-service training, community resource information, peer support, and communication with DHS. Attending support group gatherings on a regular basis is not only a great way to get the emotional and logistical support you need to succeed, it's a great way to stay on top of the training requirements you need to fulfill.
Pre-Service Trainings
Potential foster, kinship, and adoptive families are required to have 27 hours of pre-service training prior to approval as a resource home. This training is provided in a variety of formats to meet the needs of families utilizing the Guiding Principles for Oklahoma Resource Families curriculum. The training is provided statewide.
In-Service Trainings
Resource families are required to earn 12 credit hours of ongoing education each year, called in-service training. Each of the following resources offers a variety of courses developed by professionals with expertise in foster care, kinship care, and adoption. Training hours must be pre-approved by your worker.

Online In-Service Training
DHS has authorized 12 prepaid online in-service credits through training sites: Foster Parent College and Foster Care and Adoptive Community. Each of these resources offers training courses developed by professionals with expertise in foster care, kinship, and adoption.
These training units are only available to DHS and Tribal foster, kinship, and adoptive families. Families providing care through Therapeutic Foster Care or Resource Family Contract Care agencies should contact their agencies regarding in-service training opportunities.
