What Are Youth Development Events?

OKSA Youth Events are activities that are designed to improve the lives of youth in foster care by increasing knowledge about their transition needs and by helping them to build the competencies needed to become successful adults.

Examples of Youth Development Events

Life Skills Groups>

Oklahoma Successful Adulthood events provide youth with the opportunity to experience and practice life skills that will help prepare them to successfully navigate their transition to self-sufficiency, connect with other youth who have similar experiences, and gain knowledge of additional community resources.

Peer to Peer Learning>

OKSA can help organize opportunities for youth and young adults to teach and support each other through a facilitated action learning process. Peer to peer learning helps youth understand problems better than simply solving them on their own. This, in turn, makes everyone more effective at facing future challenges.

Employment Fairs>

Employment or career fair is an event in which employers, recruiters, and schools give information to youth in foster care about the types of work and positions available. Youth learn about skills needed to gain employment including resume building, interview skills, verbal and non-verbal communication.

Networking Events>

The purpose of these events is to facilitate opportunities for youth to connect with other youth and supporting adults, build relationships and potentially create a support network for themselves.
